In 2014-2015 I was a Co-director of the National Young Writers' Festival, driving the artistic vision of this truly brilliant four-day writing festival alongside two and three other co-directors, a festival manager and coordinator, under the guidance of the festival board. NYWF is part of This is Not Art festival and we were lucky to present alongside Crack Theatre Festival, Critical Animals Festival and to work with Electrofringe Festival.
In this role the co-directors were responsible for sourcing talent from within the writing community (aged 18-35) and assessing artist applications from a call-out, programming and producing panels, in-conversations, debates, performances, workshops, exhibitions and lectures. Liaising with venues and sponsors, partners and funding bodies, writing grants and program copy, managing artists.
Co-directing NYWF was a total game changer for me - it opened up my eyes to the way a festival could celebrate, facilitate and educate a community, all while having a huge amount of fun and forging real connections. I cannot speak highly enough about this festival, the people who ran it with me and the community that surrounded us.
